Abstract
The requirement of capital to purchase the production inputs such as seed, feed. fertilizers, plant protection chemicals irrigation water etc. is substantially low under the common production technology as compared to their requirement tor the adoption of improved production technology on farms. Thus, so long
as the farmers follow the common production technology with low investment in purchased inputs, the requirement of working capital on these farms would be considerably low. As a result many farmers may not need any credit to meet the Working capital requirement on the farms, and if at all some farmers need borrowed .funds for this purpose the amount may be very small. Farmers requiring substantially small amount of production loans may prefer to borrow even at a higher cost _n.om the private money lenders in order to avoid the lengthy and complex loaning procedures of the credit institutions.
