Abstract
cultivation per hectare of Jeeraphool and Badsahbhog variety of aromatic rice were calculated Rs.35301.65, and Rs.35368.81 respectively. Among different cost items contribution of total labour cost 42.99 percent to the total cost in case of Jeeraphool variety of aromatic rice, where it was 43.40 percent in case of Badsahbhog variety of aromatic rice, which indicate that the contribution of labour is very high in cost of cultivation of these two varieties. Gross income for Jeeraphool variety was found Rs.56237.64, where as in case of Basdsahbhog it was Rs.52006.02. On an average input-output ratio of aromatic rice varities i.e., Jeeraphool and Badsahbhog came to 1:1.93 and 1:1.85 respectively. On an average marketable surplus in Jeeraphool and Badsahbhog variety was worked out to 63.82 percent and 60.40 percent respectively. On an average the disposable pattern of the sampled households were found that in case of Jeeraphool 49.11 percent of the sampled households sold their produce to Co-operative society followed by retailer i.e., 39.15 percent where as in case of Badsahbhog variety 47.45 percent of the sampled households sold their produce to co-operative followed by retailer i.e., 33.56 percent. Major constraints pertaining to cultivation of aromatic rice were heavy infestation w pests and diseases, high cost of input, scarcity of labour during peak season, knowledge of latest technique know about the crop, knowledge about recommended package of practices of crop throughout the year where as in marketing of aromatic rice dependency of low price of products, lack of awareness about market information, lack knowledge of market price. Study suggested that by improving irrigation facilities area under aromatic rice can be increased. Study also suggested that the establishment of farmer’s cooperative society or sale society will not only solve money problem of small and medium farmers but also reduces the role of commission agents in the production and marketing of aromatic rice in the state and some specific minimum support price should be declared for aromatic rice to ensure benefit for the producers and also to maintain the precious biodiversity of aromatic rice in the Chhattisgarh state.
