Abstract
A field investigation on “Role of potassium nutrition in management of field bean (Dolichos lablab L.)insect pests” was carried out at agronomy field unit, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore during kharif 2013. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with 9 treatments and 3 replications, treatments consisted of three levels of potassium (25, 50 & 75 kg ha-1) with poultry manure (5 t ha-1) (T1, T2 and T3) and three levels of potassium (25, 50 & 75 kg ha-1) without poultry manure (5 t ha-1) (T5, T6 and T7) and were compared with recommended practice (25:50:75 kg N:P2O5:K2O ha-1 with FYM 5 t ha-1) (T9) and control (no fertilizer) with poultry manure (T4) and control (no fertilizer) without poultry manure (T8). Application of higher dosage of potassium 75 kg ha-1 with poultry manure recorded higher seed yield (876.67 kg ha-1) and haulm yield (2646.67 kg ha-1). The higher seed yield was attributed to higher number of pods per plant (16.90), number of seeds per pod (3.40), total phenol content (4.26) and lower pod and seed infestation per cent (17.06 and 19.15 respectively). Significantly higher N, P and K uptake (72.56, 13.43 and 42.97 kg ha-1) was recorded in higher dose of potassium application with poultry manure. Among different treatments, application of potassium 50 kg ha-1 with poultry manure recorded higher net returns (Rs. 22897 ha-1) and B:C ratio (1.01). It is advisable to adopt higher yield with reduced pod and seed infestation per cent and increasing B:C ratio.
