Abstract
Newcastle disease (ND) is widely prevalent in India and other developing countries. Prompt diagnosis of ND in remote areas is not always possible due to lack of laboratory facilityes, and proper control measures may not be undertaken at the right time leading to heavy economic loss to poultry farmers. Hence, prompt diagnosis of ND at field level is important to control the disease. Omjola and Hanson (1986) have described the collection and shipment of diagnostic specimens from animals in remote areas. This paper reports a study of suitable methods of sampling specimens from remote areas which can then be sent by ordinary post to the nearest laboratory for diagnosis of ND.
