Abstract
Studies on bio-ecology and eco-friendly management of spiralling whitefly, Aleurodicus dispersus (Russell) on guava was carried out at College of Horticulture, UHS, Bagalkot during 2016-2019. The survey indicated the presence of infestation by A. dispersus in seven districts of Karnataka. There was severity in the incidence of spiralling whitefly in Bengaluru, Bidar districts of Karnataka. Egg and adult longevity were short during the summer and longer in the winter seasons. The seasonal incidence of A. dispersus and its natural enemies indicated that all the stages of whitefly i.e., egg, nymph and adult populations were highest during December to March and lower during July to November months with upper canopy of the plant and with respect to spacing the population was higher in 2 m x 2 m. Among the predators, Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Mulsant and Chrysoperla zastrowi sillemi (Esben-Petersen) were found in large numbers in the upper canopy with the spacing 2m x 2m. Buprofezin 25 SC @ 1.5 ml per litre, imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.25 ml per litre, and dimethoate 35 EC @ 1.7 ml per litre, were found to be significantly superior throughout the period of investigation in suppressing the adults and immature stages of spiralling whiteflies. The highest fruit yield (5.72 t/ha) was recorded in the plots treated with buprofezin @ 1.5 ml per litre, with 2.74 B:C ratio followed by imidacloprid @ 0.25 ml per liter with 2.21 B:C ratio and dimethoate @ 1.7 ml per litre, with 2.51 B:C ratio. Cost effectiveness of each treatment was anatomized based on net returns and B:C ratio. Among the different IPM modules, M3- Integrated module recorded significantly higher net return of Rs. 81705 with highest B:C ratio (2.43). However, M3- IPM module was on par with M2- Chemointensive module but significantly superior over M1-Biointensive module. From the environmental safety point of view, it can be concluded that M3- Integrated module can be deployed in managing of guava whitefly population.
