Abstract
The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of Plant Growth Promoting Microorganisms on establishment, growth and yield attributes of brinjal (Solanum melongena L.). The experiment was carried out at department of Vegetable Science, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot during the 2020-2021. The experiment was conducted into two trails 1) To identify the best combination of plant growth promoting microorganisms consortia enhancing establishment and growth of brinjal under pot culture. 2) To identify the best field efficient PGPM’s consortia in brinjal. The pot experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design with sixteen treatments and three replications. The first trial results revealed that the combination of AMF + Azotobacter + Trichoderma harzianum (T9) recorded the maximum plant height (62.76 cm), total number of branches per plant (13.33), number of leaves per plant (126.33), days to first flowering (41.33 days), root length (59.86 cm), fruit yield per plant (615.93 g/plant), shoot fresh and dry weight (268.70 g and 54.20 g respectively), root fresh and dry weight (237.43 g and 55.36 g), available nutrients in soil (495.00 : 66.73 : 402.80 NPK kg/ha.) and nutrient uptake of brinjal plant (461.66 : 196.66 : 523.33 NPK kg/ha) at 90 DAT. The four best treatment combinations from pot culture studies were evaluated further for their field efficacy. Among the treatments AMF +PSB (T3) recorded maximum values for plant height (76.50 cm), total number of branches per plant (12.10), plant spread from East-West and North-South (90.85 and 91.51 cm respectively), days to first flowering (46.45 days), plant survivability (98.75 %), fruit length (10.05 cm), fruit diameter (53.40 mm), average fruit weight (72.17 g), number of fruits per plant (34.95), fruit yield per plant (2.68 kg/plant), fruit yield per plot (53.67 kg/plot), fruit yield per hectare (49.70 t/ha), available nutrients in the soil (581.22 : 51.12: 187.00 NPK kg/ha) and nutrient uptake of brinjal plant (484.25: 47.00: 176.25 NPK kg/ha). From the investigation, it is concluded that microbial combination of AMF + Azotobacter + Trichoderma harzianum (T9) and AMF+PSB (T3) are the best PGPM combination that can enhance the growth and yield attributes of brinjal crop.
