Abstract
The present study was carried out in two tehsils of Ratnagiri district of
Maharashtra state to analyse the perception and participation of rural youth in
agricultural activities in post COVID situation. Data was collected from a sample size
of 80 rural youth using pretested interview schedule through personal interview
method. The study indicated that 85.00 per cent of rural youth had high perception
about agricultural activities in post COVID situation. Regarding participation,
majority of the rural youth (92.50 per cent) had medium level of participation in
agricultural activities in post COVID situation. Control of pest and diseases, vegetable
production, spices production and processing vermicomposting and poultry farming
are some of the major areas where youth wish to get proper training. The study

enunciated that involvement in decision making was significantly influencing to
perception about agricultural activities. Change in weather conditions, incidence of
pest and diseases, lack of marketing skills, high input cost and lack of training
opportunities were the major problems faced by rural youth while participating in
agricultural activities. The State Department of agriculture and other concerned
agencies should increase the awareness and motivation programs to retain a greater
number of youths in agriculture sector.
