Abstract
An experiment entitled “Evaluation of cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. var. cerasiforme) genotypes for growth, yield and quality parameters” was conducted in the Department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture, Bengaluru, Karnataka during the year 2018-19. In present study, twenty one cherry tomato genotypes were evaluated for growth, yield and quality parameters. Among different genotypes, COHBT-199 recorded maximum plant height (261.10 cm) at the final harvest and minimum height was recorded in COHBT-206 (179.50 cm). Genotype COHBT-199, COHBT-27 and COHBT-70 recorded maximum number of branches per plant (23.80) and minimum number of days were recorded in COHBT-198 (20.50). Earliness reported in COHBT-199 (24.00 days) and maximum was recorded in COHBT-217 (32.50 days) for 50 per cent flowering. COHBT-199 genotype recorded maximum number of flowers per cluster (10.64) and number of fruits per cluster (8.75) and minimum number of fruits per cluster was recorded in COHBT-191 (3.00). Among different cherry tomato genotypes, maximum fruit length was recorded in COHBT-198 (5.00cm). The maximum fruit girth (4.00cm) was recorded in COHBT-209, COHBT-198 and COHBT-208. Genotype COHBT-198 recorded maximum average fruit weight (43.90g). The maximum fruit yield per plant was recorded in the genotype COHBT-198(2.30kg). COHBT-70genotype recorded maximum total soluble solids (8.55 ˚Brix) and minimum acidity was recorded in COHBT-31 (0.30%). Among all genotypes pericarp thickness varied between 2.50mm and 5.50mm. The maximum number of locules per fruit was recorded in COHBT-208(4.00). COHBT-209genotype recorded maximum chlorophyll content (9.90mg/g). The maximum lycopene content was recorded in genotype COHBT-44 (13.5mg/100g). Among all the genotypes, COHBT-198 and COHBT-199 for yield parameters and COHBT-44 for quality parameters found better and they can be used for further breeding programme.
