Abstract
Studies on “Planting windows for ensuring high quality and longer storability of
soybean seed” were carried out under field and laboratory conditions at Post Graduate
Institute Farm, Department of Agricultural Botany and Seed Technology Research Unit,
Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Dist. Ahmednagar (M.S.) during 2015-2017.
In order to standardize the better sowing date in normal as well as in off season for good
crop growth and performance, seed quality and storage, soybean was sown in three season
viz. Kharif, Rabi and summer. The sowing dates viz. 1st June, 15th June, 30th June and 15th
July in Kharif season of the year 2015, 1st October, 15th October, 30th October and 15th
November in Rabi season of the year 2015-16 and 1st January, 15th January, 30th January
and 15th February in summer season of the year 2016 were used as main treatments
whereas varieties Phule Agrani (V1), JS-335 (V2) and KS-103 (V3) were used as sub
treatments. The field experiment was conducted in Split Plot Design with three replications
whereas in laboratory, Factorial Completely Randomize Design was used.
In the field experiment, observations such as field emergence, days to 1st flower
bud, days to 1st flower, days to 50% flowering, days to 1st pod set, days to pod maturity,
days to maturity, plant height, number of primary branches per plant, number of pods per
plant, number of seeds per pod, length of pods, diameter of pods, seed yield, harvest index,
hundred seed weight, and shattering % were recorded and observed that all the characters
were significantly affected by sowing dates, varieties and their interaction effect in Kharif,
