Abstract
Papaya (Carica papaya L.) fruit is highly perishable in nature due to high physiological processes and microbial decay. Harvest and postharvest losses of papaya is reported to be 7.36%.Chitosan is an edible and bilologically safe preservative coatings. With an objective to extend the shelf life of papaya fruits, a study entitled ''Influence of post harvest treatment of chitosan on quality and shelf of papaya (Carica papaya L.) fruit'' was conducted at Department of Postharvest Technology, College of Horticulture, UHS Campus, Bengaluru during the academic year 2016-17.
