Abstract
The results obtained of the studies unde1taken in physical characteristics of Osmanabadi goats in Parbhani and Beed districts. Osmanabadi is an impmtant breed of goat found predominantly in Osmanabad, Latur, Beed and Parbhnai districts of Marathwada and also migrated to adjoining areas. It is famous dual purpose goat breed of India. For studying the physical characteristics of Osmanabadi goats the survey was conduct in the Parbhani and Beed district from the Marathwada region. Two block from each district had selected randomly and from each block five villages the block viz. Parbhnai, Gangakhed, Ambajogai and Parli etc. The results obtained of the studies undertaken Breed sub-type in surveyed area were 64.73 , 12.86, 9.82, 8.43 and 4.14 per cent goats for S1, S2, S3, S4 and S5 colour breed sub types respectively. The coat (hair) colour pattem observed in the present investigation were 74.27, 21.71 and 4.01 per cent goats are black, black and white and other colour, respectively. Ear patte1n recorded in the present study were 99.72 and 0.27 per cent goats have pendulous and horizontal orientation. Hom pattem recorded in the present study 81.7 4 per cent goats was homed and 18.25 per cent goat was polled. Tail pattem recorded in the present study was 97.92 per cent goats had cured shape and only 2.07 per cent goats had straight. The block effects were significant on height, gi1th, length, ear length, hom length and body weight. The sex effect were influenced significantly on all the weight. The sex effect were influenced significantly on all the traits under study. The breed sub type effects were significant on 0-3 months goat on height, gi1th, length, ear length, hom length and body weight. The breed sub type effect were significant on 4-6 months goats on height, gi1th, length, ear length, body weight and hom length. The breed sub-type effect were significant on 7-12 months goat on ear length and hmn length. The breed sub type effect were non signficiant on 13-36 months goat on height, gilth, length, ear length and body weight, whereas significant on hom length. The breed subtype significant on above 36 months goat on ear length and hmn length whereas, non-significant height, gi1th, body length and body weight.
