COMPARATIVE EFFICACY OF COMPETITIVE ELISA OVER AGID FOR DETECTION OF BLUETONGUE VIRUS ANTIBODIES

Abstract
The disease caused by bluetongue virus (BTV), a prototype of Orbivirus genus of the family Reoviridae, is endemic in certain pockets of southern districts of Tamil Nadu. It acts as a barrier to the movement of sheep and goats within the districts of Tamil Nadu and also to other neighbouring states. The most widely used assay for the detection of BTV infection is agar gel immuno diffusion (AGID) test (Jochim and Chow, 1969; Stott and Osburn, 1983; Abu Elzein, 1984).
