Genetic Evaluation of Production Performance of Jersey x Red Sindhi Crossbred Cows

Abstract
The present study was conducted on 355 Jersey x Red Sindhi crossbred cows maintained over the period from 1985 to 2014 (30 years). The data was analyzed for estimation of means and effect of non-genetic factors. The overall least-squares means (± SE) of 180-day milk yield, 305- day milk yield, lactation length, total lactation milk yield, peak yield, days to attain peak yield, milk yield per day of lactation length (MYLL) and milk yield per day of calving interval (MYCI) were 1027.43 ± 15.81 kg, 1595.59 ± 25.41 kg, 390.28 ± 6.77 days, 1928.58 ± 40.10 kg, 7.86 ± 0.12 kg, 34.77 ± 1.36 days, 4.67 ± 0.08 kg and 3.90 ± 0.10 kg, for the first lactation and 1134.52 ± 11.92 kg, 1733.78 ± 17.90 kg, 373.50 ± 4.24 days, 2002.57 ± 28.06 kg, 8.68 ± 0.10 kg, 31.56 ± 0.80 days, 5.13 ± 0.05 kg and 4.21 ± 0.07 kg for pooled over lactations, respectively. Period of calving had significant sources of variation for several traits. None of the other traits considered were affected by age at first calving as an independent covariate except total lactation milk yield. Parity was found to have significant (P<0.05) or highly significant (P<0.01) influence on all the traits studied except lactation length and days to attain peak yield.
