Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Studies on the influence of plant
growth regulators and their time of application on growth, tuber yield and
quality of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) Cv. Kiran under Southern
Telangana conditions” was carried out during the rabi season of the year
2016-17 at College of Horticulture, Mojerla.
The result revealed that, among different plant growth regulator
treatments, GA3 200 ppm registered higher vine length (351.87 cm), more
number of leaves per branch (25.75), bigger leaf area (84.48 cm2
), more fresh
weight (1236 g) & dry weight (219.21 g) of branches per vine and higher fresh
weight (673.43 g) and dry weight (84.51 g) of leaves per vine, whereas
maximum number of branches per vine (21.20) was recorded in CCC 500
ppm.
Schedule of spray significantly influence the various vegetative
parameters. Plant growth regulator spray at 45 days after planting recorded
higher vine length (219.84 cm), more number of branches per vine (18.40),
more number leaves per branch (65.66), higher fresh weight (924.92 g) dry
weight of branches per vine (164.06 g) and maximum fresh weight (504.09 g)
and dry weight of leaves per vine (63.27 g) over 30 days after planting.
The interaction between treatments and schedule of spray significantly
influence the vegetative parameters. GA3
200 ppm spray at 30 days after
planting recorded higher vine length (359.85 cm), more number of leaves per
branch (81.38), maximum fresh weight (1284 g) & dry weight of branches per
vine (227.74 g) and higher fresh weight (699.70 g) and dry weight of leaves
per vine (87.82 g), while more number of branches per vine (21.60) was
recorded in CCC 500 ppm.
All treatments differed significantly with respect of tuber parameters,
GA3 200 ppm recorded significantly the highest tuber length (19.31cm), while
maximum tuber diameter (5.18 cm), more number of tubers per vine (7.6),
highest tuber yield per hectare (40.06 t) and maximum harvest index were
(49.17 %) recorded in CCC 500 ppm treatment. Maximum mean weight of
tuber per vine (114.53 g) was recorded in Ethrel 250 ppm.
The results pertaining to biochemical parameters revealed that
maximum percentage of total carbohydrate (27.05) and crude protein (2.33)
were recorded in CCC 500 ppm.
The data on economics of plant growth regulator treatment showed
that, among the treatments, CCC 500 ppm recorded the highest gross return
(4.00,600 Rs), net return (3, 44,351 Rs) and best cost benefit ratio (1:7.10)
over other treatments
