Abstract
Nine dogs presented with signs of chronic
regurgitation and weight loss were subjected
to clinical, laboratory and imaging diagnostic
techniques. Survey radiographs and barium
contrast radiography con rmed esophageal
diverticulum associated with megaesophagus in
one, constriction of lower esophageal sphincter
in three dogs and diffused dilatation of cervical
esophagus in another ve dogs. Of which,
congenital megaesophagus was recorded in a ve
month old non descriptive pup. Three out of nine
were died within three weeks of presentation,
where two dogs had out ow obstruction due to
complete closure of lower oesophageal sphincter
and one dog with concurrent renal failure. Rest
of the dogs was advised medical therapy with
pyridostigmine and elevated feeding.
