Abstract
Newcastle disease is an economically important avian disease with a very wide host range involving commercial chicken, country chicken, wild birds and free living birds. Systematic vaccination is followed only in commercial chicken whereas the other types of birds are not brought under vaccination cover. This results in the existence of a susceptible population, throwing the over stressed commercial broilers and layers under constant threat. 236 different species of birds have been reported to be susceptible to Newcastle disease virus (NDV) infection.
