Abstract
Rainfall is needed to replenish water to the earth. Without rainfall, this planet would be an enormous desert. In the current study examines changes in rainfall trend in the Upper Betwa basin using the rainfall data of 11 stationsfor the period of 45 years (1970-2014).Spatial distribution and temporal variation of rainfall over the entire area were observed on the monthly and annual basis. The Mann–Kendall test, Spearman`s rho test and Sen's slope estimator test were used to detect monotonic trend direction and magnitude of change over time,i.e. annual and monthly basis. The Pettitt`s test, SNHT and Buishand’s test were applied to evaluate homogeneity of rainfall data. The Z-value of MK and SR test represents both positive and negative trends of rainfall in the area. In a monthly rainfall series almost all the month are positive trend except the August month. To explore spatial distribution of trend of annual and monthly rainfall, Sen’s slope magnitude of each station was interpolated using Kriging interpolation technique in Arc-GIS.
