Abstract
A study was carried out to identify species and sex in tiger and lion
through molecular scatology techniques and also to develop DNA Barcode for captive tigers and lions present at Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP)
Vandalur, Chennai. The scat samples were collected from 29 tigers (11 males and
18 females) and 18 lions (male 7 and female = 11). During sample collection the
scat samples were characterized by various morphological characters and physical properties.
