Prevalence of Endo-parasitic Infection in the delta region of Orathanadu Thanjavur district

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to know the prevalence of endo-parasitic infection in the delta region of Orathanadu Thanjavur district. 144 faecal samples was collected in out-patient and ambulatory units of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute Orathanadu with the history of diarrhoea/enteritis in cattle, sheep, goat and dogs with irrespective of breed, age and sex. Out of 144 samples, 86 were positive for parasitic infection (59.72%). Among the 86 positive samples, over all prevalence of parasitic infection were 61.63% in goats, 32.56% in cattle, 3.49% in sheep and 2.33% in dogs were recorded. Females shows higher incidence (62.79%). In the month of March (37.24%) higher parasitic infection was recorded. Endoparasitic infections observed in the study were Strongyles, Coccidia, Amphistomes, Balantidium coli, Faciola hepatica, Trichruris ovis, Dipylidium caninum, Strongylse+Coccidia,Amphistomse+Coccidia,Coccidia+Moniezia,Strongyles+Moniezia,Toxocaracanis+ Ancylostoma caninum, Amphistomes+Strongyles+Coccidia, and Coccidia+Strongyles+Trichruris ovis. High incidence was recorded in Strongyles (30.23%) and Coccidiosis (29.07%). Strongylosis, Coccidiosis and mixed infection of Strongylosis with Coccidiosis were notice in goats where as Amphistomiasis was recorded in cattle. Creating awareness to the livestock farmers by regularly conducting free deworming health camp can eradicate the parasitic infestation.
