Abstract
Jassid (Amrasca biguttula biguttula), whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) and shoot and fruit borer (Leucinodes orbonalis) were observed as the major pests on brinjal, variety Muktakeshi. The peak activity of jassid (15.10/plant) and whitefly (13.72/plant) was observed during last week and third week of April, respectively. Maximum shoot (8.88%) and fruit (20.18%) infestation recorded during first week of April and third week of May. The peak activity of natural enemies i.e. lady bird beetle, Menochilus sexmuculata (2.00/plant) and spider, Lynx spp. (1.88/plant) was recorded during last week of April. The jassid and whitefly had non significant correlation with all the meteorological parameters; while, the brinjal shoot and fruit borer showed positively significant co-relation with maximum [r = 0.645; regression equation y = 1.444x + (- 48.51); R2 = 0.417] and minimum [r = 0.752; regression equation y = 1.15x + (- 17.97); R2 = 0.566] temperatures. Two predators viz., lady bird beetle (Menochilus sexmuculata) and spider (Lynx spp.) were found predating mainly on jassids and whiteflies. There existed a positive significant co-relation between whitefly [r = 0.600; regression equation y = 0.44x +1.653; R2 = 0.360], jassid [r = 0.689; regression equation y = 0.130x +1.666; R2 = 0.432] and predators. Spinosad 45 SC @ 187.5 ml/ha was most effective against the shoot and fruit borer with 6.88 per cent infestation, marketable fruit yield (15.37 q/ha) and benefit cost ratio (1.98:1). Profenophos 50 EC @ 1000 ml/ha was most effective against the sucking pests with whitefly (3.42/plant) and jassid (5.31/plant). Spinosad 45 SC @ 187.5 ml/ha was most safe for lady bird beetle (1.44/plant) whereas, Emamectin benzoate 5 SG @ 225 g/ha was most safe for spider (1.27/plant).
