Abstract
The present investigat ion was undertaken to study the proximate and minerological composition and total polyphenol content of eight fodder tree loppings collectedduring winter and summer seasonsThere were significant differences among thespecies in respect of the content of crude protein, ranging from 8 75 to 20 5 % and 9 91 to 22 45 % during winter and summer season, respectively Among the fodder tree speciesstudied, subabul had higher levels of protein in summer, followed by Saundad, Umber and Neem The fodder tree speciesvaried in respect of the ether extract, crude fibre and totalash which ranged from ? 15 to 4 17 %, 19 70 to 27 20 %. 7 37 to 12 44 % during winter and 2 37 to 4 42 %, 18 15 to 25 13 %, 2 56 to 11 35 %, durJng summer seasons, respectivelyXVAbstract contd Shinde A SThe important macro and micro mineral content offodder tree species a 3 so varied in different seasons Theiron, copper, zinc content ranged from 211 63 to 389 46, 13 48to 27 31, 21 21 to 46 52 ppm during winter season and 215 60to 395 57, 11 25 to 28 52, 24 43 to 48 33 ppm during summer season, respectively The calcium, phosphorus and magnesiumcontent varied from 1 87 to 2 43 0 12 to 0 25 %, 0 21 to 0 63% during winter and 1 92 to 2 28, 0 16 to 0 27, 0 30 to 0 84 %during summer season, respectively The total polyphenolscontent of fodder tree species varied from 0 82 to 3 0 3 % inwinter season and 0 91 to 3 28 % during summer seasonThe overal1 results of investigation indicated thatboth the species and season greatly influenced the nutritionalcomposition of the fodder trees The subabul was found to be nutritionally superior to other top feeds during both theseasons Summer season was the best season to take loppings for the animal feeding
