Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    The experiment was conducted to study the effects of dietary supplementation of betaine with reduction of methionine on performance of commercial broiler chicken in summer season. One hundred and sixty-eight (168) straight run day old commercial broiler chicks were distributed randomly to seven treatment groups, each treatment group consisted of four replicates, each with six chicks leading to 24 chicks per treatment. The experiment was conducted for a duration of six weeks. The seven treatments were divided as follows: T1 diet was kept as control (without Betaine Hcl). T2 diet contained Betaine Hcl @50g/100kg of feed, T3 diet contained Betaine Hcl @100g/100kg of feed, T4 diet contained Betaine Hcl @50g/100kg of feed along with 10 % reduction of Methionine, T5 diet contained Betaine Hcl @50g/100kg of feed along with 20 % reduction of Methionine, T6 diet contained Betaine Hcl @100g/100kg of feed along with 10 % reduction of Methionine and T7 diet contained Betaine Hcl @100g/100kg of feed along with 20 % reduction of Methionine.

    EFFECT OF FEEDING DIETS SUPPLEMENTED WITH AN ANTIBIOTIC VS PROBIOTIC ON PERFORMANCE OF COMMERCIAL BROILER CHICKEN

    The experiment was conducted to study the effects of dietary supplementation of antibiotic and probiotic as an alternative to antibiotic growth promoter on performance of commercial broilers. Five hundred and forty (540) straight run day-old commercial broiler chicks were distributed randomly to three treatment groups; each treatment group consisted of six replicates and each have 30 chicks leading to 180 chicks per treatment. The experiment was conducted for a period of six weeks. The three treatments were divided as follows: T1 diet was kept as control (without antibiotic and probiotic), T2 diet was kept as antibiotic group and T3 diet was kept as probiotic group. In control group there was no addition of antibiotic and probiotic but in T2 group antibiotic and T3 group probiotic was added in feed and water. For T2 group in feed Enramycin Hydrochloride 8% as AGP @ 100 g/ton of feed was added and in water from 2nd to 5th day Neomycin Sulphate 100 mg + Doxycycline 100 mg @ 10 mg/kg body weight, from 16th to 19th day Sulphadiazine 200 mg + Trimethoprim 40 mg @ 10 mg/kg body weight and from 30th to 33rd day Enrofloxacin 100 mg @ 10 mg/kg body weight was added and for T3 group in feed Probiotic Mixture (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus coagulans, Clostridium butyricum HJCB998) @ 500g/tone of feed and in water from 2nd to 5th day, 16th to 19th day and 30th to 33rd day used Probiotic Mixture (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus coagulans, Pediococcusacidilactici, Saccharomyces boulardii, Clostridium butyricum HJCB998) @ 5 g per 100 birds was added.

    The experiment was conducted to study the effect of different levels of trace mineral sources on performance of commercial broiler chicken. One hundred and twenty (120) straight run day old commercial broiler chicks were distributed randomly to five experimental treatments, consisting of 24 chicks in each treatment. Each treatment consisted of four replicates with six chicks per replicate. The experiment was conducted for a period of six weeks. The five treatments were divided as follows: T1 diet (control with 100 percent supplementation of inorganic trace minerals), T2 diet with supplementation of 75 percent inorganic and 25 percent organic trace minerals, T3 diet with supplementation of 50 percent inorganic and 50 percent organic trace minerals, T4 diet with supplementation of 25 percent inorganic and 75 percent organic trace minerals and T5 diet with supplementation of 100 percent organic trace minerals.

    To study the effect of dietary supplementation of different level of L-Threonine with reduced crude protein level on performance of commercial broilers this experiment was carried out on two hundred and twenty four (224) straight run day-old commercial broiler chicks of a single hatch. The Chicks were randomly distributed to seven treatments, consisting of 32 chicks in each treatment. Each treatment consisted of four replicates with eight chicks per replicate. The experiment was conducted for a period of six weeks. The eight treatments were: T1 diet (Basal Diet + L-Threonine as per NRC requirement). T2 diet with 0.5% CP Reduction than basal diet with addition of 10% L-Threonine, T3 diet with 1.0% CP Reduction than basal diet with addition of 10% L-Threonine, T4 diet with 1.5% CP Reduction than basal diet with addition of 10% L-Threonine T5 diet with 0.5% CP Reduction than basal diet with addition of 15% L-Threonine, T6 diet with 1.0% CP Reduction than basal diet with addition of 15% L-Threonine and T7 diet with 1.5% CP Reduction than basal diet with addition of 15% L-
