Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

GENETIC VARIABILITY ANALYSIS IN RICE (Oryza sativa L.) GENOTYPES UNDER AEROBIC CONDITION AND THEIR MOLECULAR ANALYSIS
(Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding B. A. College of Agriculture Anand Agricultural University Anand, 2019) Nikki Kumari; Dr. Maheshbhai Parmar
Among the cereals, rice is the most important crop with high acceptability and wider use. Globally, drought represents a major constraint on rice production. The present investigation was carried out with 50 genotypes of rice in randomized complete block design with three replications at, Regional Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Kharif 2018. The objectives of the present investigation were to estimate the extent of variability present in rice genotypes with respect to yield and its component traits, genotypic and phenotypic correlations among different traits, direct and indirect effects of different characters contributing towards grain yield by path coefficient analysis and molecular diversity using drought specific SSR markers.

HETEROSIS AND COMBINING ABILITY IN WHEAT (Triticum aestivum L.)
(Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University Anand, 2019) PATEL PARTHIK UMESHBHAI; Dr. B. C. Patel
The present investigation entitled “Heterosis and combining ability in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was carried out at Regional Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat during rabi 2018-19. The experimental material consisted of 67 genotypes, comprised of five lines, ten testers, their 50 hybrids and two standard check varieties. The experimental material was evaluated in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The observations were recorded on twelve different characters viz. days to 50 % heading, days to maturity, plant height, number of effective tillers per plant, length of main spike, number of spikelets per main spike, 100-grain weight, grain yield per plant, biological yield per plant, harvest index, protein content and hectolitre weight. The recorded data were subjected to analysis to assess per se performance, heterotic effects (heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis), combining ability of parents and their hybrids and gene effects.

DIALLEL ANALYSIS OF FRUIT YIELD AND ITS COMPONENT TRAITS IN TOMATO (Solanum lycopersicum L.)
(Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding B. A. College of Agriculture Anand Agricultural University Anand, 2019) Mayur Kumar Sonagara; Dr. J. N. Patel
The present investigation was undertaken on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) in order to estimate combining ability, heterosis and genetic variability through molecular markers using diallel mating design. The resulting 45 hybrids along with 10 parents and one check were grown in a randomized complete block design with three replications at Main Vegetables Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during kharif-rabi 2019. The main objective of the experiment was to study the per se performance, combining ability effects, magnitude of heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis and gene effects of parents and F1’s for fruit yield and its component characters including quality traits.

DIALLEL ANALYSIS FOR FRUIT YIELD AND ITS COMPONENT TRAITS IN OKRA [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]
(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2019) Sidapara Mayankkumar P.; Dr. D. P. Gohil
The present investigation on okra entitled “Diallel Analysis for Fruit Yield and its Component Traits in Okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]” comprising of 10 parents, their 45 F1s (diallel crosses excluding reciprocals) and one standard check GJOH 4 was carried out at Main Vegetable Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during the Kharif-2018. The experimental material was evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The objectives of the investigation were to study per se performance, magnitude of heterosis, combining ability effects and gene action for fruit yield, its component traits and quality parameters.
