Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

ESTIMATE OF GENETIC PARAMETER, CHARACTER ASSOCIATION, PATH ANALYSIS AND GENETIC DIVERGENCE ANALYSIS IN PUMPKIN [Cucurbita moschata Duch. ex. poir.]
(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2017) Deep J. Chaudhari; Dr. R. R. Acharya
An experiment comprising of forty diverse genotypes of pumpkin [Cucurbita moschata Duch. ex. Poir.] was conducted in randomized complete block design with two replications during kharif 2016 at Main Vegetable Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand to study the genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, characters association, path coefficient analysis and genetic diversity. Each genotype was represented by accommodating seven plants in single row spaced at 2 × 1 m distance. Observations were recorded on three plants excluding border plants for the sixteen characters viz., fruit yield per plant, days to opening of first male flower, days to opening of first female flower, first male flowering node, first female flowering node, number of fruits per plant, days to harvesting, polar circumferences of fruit, equatorial circumferences of fruit, fruit weight, flesh thickness, number of seeds per fruit, test weight of 100 seeds, total soluble solids, total sugar and ß-carotene content.

GENETIC VARIABILITY, CORRELATION AND PATH ANALYSIS OF SEED YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS IN TOBACCO (Nicotiana tabacum L.)
(DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDING B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2017) Patel Ami Bharatbhai; Dr. M. G. Makwana
Genetic variability, correlation and path coefficients were studied in 48 genotypes of tobacco during kharif 2015-2016 at Bidi Tobacco Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences for all characters under study. Characters viz., seed yield per plant, days to fifty per cent flowering, number of leaves per plant, plant height, number of branches per plant, number of capsules per plant, test weight, khakhri yield per plant and harvest index had high genotypic coefficient of variance, high heritability and high genetic advance expressed as percentage of mean indicating that phenotypic selection could be effective in improvement of these characters. The estimates for above parameters were low for seed oil per cent except heritability.
