Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    Neem (Azadirachta indica, A.Juss) belongs to the family Meliaceae. It is a hardy, quick growing, evergreen tree. Fresh neem leaves and flowers come in March- April. The lifespan of tree is more than two centuries. It is naturally distributed on Shivalik hills of Uttar Pradesh and hillock of Deccan, in Karnataka and adjoining states. Neem is bitter in taste due to the presence of "Triterpenese" or "Limonoids". The most important bioactive substance of neem is "Azadiractin". The neem tree grows on almost all type of soils and wide range of climate. Neem tree is recognized as "Kalpavriksha" because all parts of neem and its products are very useful in agriculture, industries, medicines and in many other fields

The study was conducted the colleges of veterinary science and animal husbandry Anand and Sardar krushinagar. The main aim of the study was to know the veterinary college students’ attitude towards veterinary education and the relation of the students’ personal characteristics, socio psychological and family background factors with their attitude.     Since ages, due to the cultural reasons tribal farmwomen have remained socially and economically backward. They are considered as weaker section and have been the object of exploitation. Tribal women have been denied equal opportunities for their personal growth and social development but the prosperity and growth of the tribal depend on status and development of their women. Tribal farmwomen actually contribute more economic terms than is usually recognized. In addition to various economic activities of tribal farmwomen, they also participate in indigenous knowledge about the medicinal uses of the plants by way of self-doing, supervising or assisting.

    INFORMATION NEEDS OF COTTON GROWERS

    Cotton is a commercial crop that plays a major role in India's economy. In India, it is cultivated across nine states and Gujarat is leading cottongrowing state in the country. Though India is having the largest area under cotton, its average productivity is low against the world average. There may be many reasons for such low productivity. SAUs, private companies and NGOs in India generate large numbers of technologies for cotton cultivation. Unless these technologies are taken to the farmers at the time it is needed, its rate of adoption would be low. Information is considered as a critical input in decision-making particularly for acceptance of a technology by the farmer. Further, there may be many more such information that may help a farmer in taking an economic decision regarding cotton cultivation
