Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    The present investigation was undertaken with a view to study socio-economic profile, natural farming practices, cost and return, resource use efficiency and constrained faced by CBNF adopter farmers in Middle Gujarat. The study covered 3 districts and total 60 CBNF adopters and 60 non-CBNF farmers from Ahmedabad, Kheda and Vadodara districts. To study the production, cost and return from farmers (both categories of farmers practicing cow based natural farming and conventional farming) of rice and wheat crops, required primary data were collected from the farmers related to the agricultural year 2019-20 rabi and kharif season. The tabular, cost and returns analysis and resource use efficiency were used to achieve specific objectives of the study.

    The present investigation was undertaken to understand the entire agricultural labour dynamics i.e. socio-economic perspectives of agricultural labourers focusing on income, employment, wages, consumption and migration, labour scarcity, its magnitude (crop wise, month wise, operation wise and season-wise), it’s impact on cropping pattern and productivity, causes and possible solution in tribal and non-tribal areas of middle Gujarat. The data for the study were drawn from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data were collected from 120 agriculture labour and 144 farmers covering marginal, small, medium and large farms from four clusters or twelve villages of four taluka from tribal area (Dahod district) as well as non-tribal area (Anand district) of middle Gujarat region for the year 2019-20.

    AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF PRODUCTION AND MARKETING OF CABBAGE (Brassica oleracea var. Capitata) IN MIDDLE GUJARAT

    The present research was undertaken with a view to study the cost and return, resource use efficiency, marketing cost and price spread and constraints in production and marketing of cabbage in middle Gujarat region. A multistage random sampling method was used for selecting the sample. The study enclosed 4 talukas, 12 villages and 120 cabbage farmers (26 marginal, 37 small, 27 medium and 30 large) from Anand and Kheda districts. For calculating price spread in marketing, 5 functionaries from each category of cabbage marketing were randomly selected from Anand and Kheda markets. The major analytical tools engaged for the study were tabular analysis, cost concept, production function analysis (using SPSS software), price spread and Garrett’s ranking technique.

    PRICE DYNAMICS AND EXTENT OF MARKET INTEGRATION OF CASTOR IN INDIA

    The present study entitled "Price Dynamics and Extent of Market Integration of Castor in India" was carried out in the major markets of castor. To achieve the specific objectives of the study major three castor producing states were selected purposively on the basis of their share in castor production of the country. The selected states were Gujarat, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh as they contributed about more than 95 percent in national production of castor. Furthermore, on the basis of maximum quantity of arrivals, three markets from each state were selected. Therefore, total nine markets namely Thara, Deesa and Patan from Gujarat, Sumerpur, Nohar and Phalodi from Rajasthan and Adoni, Kurnool and Yemmiganur from Andhra Pradesh were selected for detailed study. The relevant data was collected from different government sources for a period of fifteen years i.e. 2005-06 to 2019-20. The major analytical tools like compound annual growth rate, Cuddy Della Valle index, 12 month moving average method, Augmented Dicky Fuller test, Johansen co-integration test, Granger causality test, vector error correction model and Markov chain analysis were used for the present study.

    The present investigation was undertaken with a view to study the cost and return, production function analysis, marketing cost and price spread in production and marketing of spine gourd in middle Gujarat. A multi stage sampling design was used for selecting the respondents. The study covered 4 talukas and 80 spine gourd grower (40 tissue culture and 40 non tissue culture) from Kheda and Vadodara districts. For studying price spread in marketing, 6 functionaries from each category of spine gourd marketing were randomly selected from Kheda and Vadodara markets. The major analytical tools employed for the study were tabular analysis, percentage, ratios, cost concept, production function analysis, logistic regression analysis and Garrett ranking technique.
