Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    India is the largest milk producer in the world with annual production of 114.4 million tonne. In certain aspects there is gap between dairy industry and technology at lower levels of production. Poor technological investments in the dairy industry in India are resulting in deceleration in growth of the sector. The sector had a growth rate of 4.25 per cent in the 8th Plan, 4.07 per cent in the 9th and 3.19 per cent only in the 10th Plan.

    Business incubators play a key role in providing assistance to nascent entrepreneurs, particularly in the initial stages of their firm’s life-cycle. The Agri-Business Incubator (ABI) is a place where the process of starting Agri-business venture is catalysed by supporting the entrepreneurs with Agricultural Technology Transfer, Business Consultancy, Networking with Management Experts, Venture Capital Funding, Infrastructure and other facilities.This research reviews the extent literature to examine the critical role of university based incubators in emerging economies in creating value. They also provide new opportunities for local customisation of products, employment generation, novel technology, creating entrepreneurial talent and leadership that are required for emerging economies. Such support gives the start-up companies a relatively secure environment and a head start over others. Anand Agricultural University, Business Planning & Development Unit (an Agri Business Incubator) provides a unique opportunity to nascent entrepreneurs to benefit from the talent and resources located in the university, particularly in development of products that require higher level of technology and sophistication.

    The green revolution has resulted in remarkable growth in the agricultural production over four decades in India. However, the widespread and indiscriminate uses of chemical fertilizers and pesticides have led to a number of problems causing serious health hazards and environmental pollution. The excessive use of chemicals fertilizers is now leading to decrease in crop yield, imbalance in soil nutrients and an adverse effect on soils physico-chemical properties.
