STUDIES ON GLASS IONOMER CEMENT AND NANO-HYBRID RESIN COMPOSITE AS TREATMENT FOR DENTAL CARIES IN DOGS
(KARNATAKA VETERINARY, ANIMAL AND FISHERIES SCIENCES UNIVERSITY, BIDAR, 2020-01) KOUSHIEK YADAV S P; Dr. K. M. SRINIVASA MURTHY
The incidence of dental caries in dogs presented to Veterinary College Hospital, Bangalore was studied for a period of one year. Dental caries was more common in Nondescript, followed by Pomeranian, Labrador, Beagle, Rottweiler, Dalmatian and Boxer. The incidence was more in dogs above ten years age. Male dogs were more affected than female dogs. Most common cause of dental caries was accumulation of dental calculus on the tooth, which harbors the bacteria and releases acids to demineralize the enamel and dentine. Dental caries was treated by glass ionomer cement and nano hybrid resin composite restorations in six clinical cases of dogs in each group respectively. The postoperative assessment of clinical, hematological and biochemical showed insignificant variations. The gross changes like color match, marginal integrity, surface texture, anatomical contour and gross fractures in both groups showed no changes where two dogs in Group Ishowed the restoration was completely missing on 15th and 45th day respectively. The postoperative radiographs of both restoration showed radiopaque sealant in the cavities of affected tooth indicates the sealant was intact. Key words: Dogs, Dental caries, Glass iono
