(Karnataka Veterinary Animal And Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, 2007) JYOTHILAKSHMI
Poultry farming in India has made rapid progress during the last three decades and acquired the status of industry. The improvements made in genetics, nutrition of birds and managemental practices adopted have contributed immensely to this phenomenal growth. The quality of feed and feed ingredients plays an important role in determining the performance of the birds and profit margin to the poultry farmers. Fungal contamination of agricultural products is often unavoidable and of worldwide concern. In tropical countries like India, hot and humid climate, unseasonal rains, inadequate drying and improper storage conditions have increased the susceptibility of scarcely available feed stuffs to fungal contamination, thus undermining the use of quality ingredients to sustain the fast growing poultry industry.
