Ticks are divided into two groups, soft ticks (Argasidae) and hard ticks (Ixodidae). Ticks transmit more kinds of pathogens than any other group of blood feeding arthropods and among arthropods are second only to mosquitoes in their public health importance worldwide. Ticks and the diseases they transmit are widely distributed throughout the world, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions.
