There is substantial increase in total milk production over the years, enabling the country to be the first largest milk producer in the world. However, there is a need for nearly three fold increase in total milk production so as to equate the average world levels and to cater to the countryĆ¢ s per capita requirement of 220 g a day as against the present availability of 20 g per day.The ability of a cow to produce viable offsprings and the frequency with which it is produced, determine the economy of dairy industry
