Effect of certain homeopathic drugs on the performance of crossbred layers
(G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar - 263145 (Uttarakhand), 2008-05) Alok Kumar; Ashok Kumar
A study was conducted using 80 crossbred pullets having five months age to investigate the effect of certain homoeopathic drugs on the production, reproduction, egg quality traits and haemato-biochemical parameters. The experimental birds were randomly divided into four treatment groups viz. Group T1 (Calcarea phos. 30 @ 1ml/20 birds), T2 (Alfalfa Ø @ 1ml/20 birds), T3 (Five The above mentioned drugs were administered through drinking water in the morning on every alternate day. Eggs were collected daily for recording of various production, reproduction and egg quality parameters. At the end of experiment, blood was collected from experimental birds of each group for haemato-biochemical studies. It was found that administration of Alfalfa and Five phos significantly (P<0.05) improves the egg production, whereas, no significant effect of different homeopathic drugs has been found on egg quality parameters. The age at sexual maturity was found to be significantly (P<0.05) decreased in Calcarea phos and Alfalfa treated groups. Calcarea phos exhibited significantly (P<0.05) better percent fertility and hatchability. Haemato-biochemical analysis revealed that Calcarea phos significantly (P<0.05) increased the PCV value while Alfalfa significantly (P<0.05) increased the serum glucose level. However, no significant effect of different homeopathic drugs has been found on Hb, TEC, TLC, total protein, albumin and cholesterol concentration. The percent mortality was found to be reduced in all the treatments. It can be concluded that Alfalfa followed by Five phos may be used for optimum layer production.
