Seasonal incidence of insect pests and screening of soybean germplasm for host suitability against Spodoptera litura (Fabricius)
(G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, District Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. PIN - 263145, 2022-07) Ashutosh; Gaur, Neeta
The current study was conducted at the Norman E. Borlaug Crop Research Centre during the kharif season of 2021, and laboratory studies were conducted in the morphology laboratory, Department of Entomology, G. B. P. U. A. & T, and Pantnagar in which recorded the seasonal incidence of insect pests of soybean and their natural enemies, as well as their peak activities with respect to various meteorological parameters. Insect pest’s presence was witnessed from the 30th to the 41st standard week, with a peak incidence of all insects generally witnessed from the last week of August to the third week of September. The study on antixenosis on 8 germplasm of soybean revealed that DS-9421 has the lowest C value and showed as moderate antixenosis against S. litura while the JS21-72 has the highest C value followed by JS-335 and shows preferred host. The antibiosis study of 8 soybean germplasm against third instar larvae of S. litura showed that NRC-149, Himso-1689, VL-99 and DS-9421 exhibiting antibiosis effect showing lower larval weight, pupal weight, higher pupal period, larval period and low per cent larval survival and per cent pupal survival. In case of ECI and ECD germplasm, DS-9421, DS-3108, Himso-1689 and VL-99 exhibit lower value and showed that these germplasm is less preferred by S. litura. While in case of AD germplasm, DS-9421, VL-99 and NRC-152 exhibit higher value and low AD value in JS-335 followed by DS-3108. Hence we can say that germplasm DS-9421 showed resistance against S. litura as compared to the tested germplasm, whereas JS21-72 and JS-335 were vulnerable for S.litura.
