Studies on non-isothermal kinetics and thermodynamics of solid state decomposition of metal-organic frameworks
(G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar - 263145 (Uttarakhand), 2018-06) Arya, Tanuja; Sand, N.K.
The present research work deals with the studies of Non-Isothermal Kinetics and Thermodynamics of Solid State Decomposition of selected Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). The MOFs - MOF-5, HKUST and MOF-53 were selected for this study. The thermal characteristics of MOFs were investigated through simultaneous thermogravimetry - differential thermal analysis - differential thermogravimetry (TGDTA-DTG) in air. The TGA data obtained by earlier workers were used to investigate kinetics of thermal decomposition process by applying Coats –Redfern (CR) and Horowitz-Metzger (HM) methods. The TG data revealed that MOF-5 was most stable compound as it has shown highest thermal stability. However HKUST and MOF-53 has shown less stability. In general, HM methods have shown higher values of activation energy over CR method. HM method’s calculations of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were found higher in comparison to CR method which is in conformity with the research done earlier. Both the methods have provided a wide difference for E and A but identical results were found for ΔS, ΔH and ΔG for most of the thermal degradation processes. By applying these methods we can evaluate kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of various compounds using TG-DTG-DTA data.
