Early growth performance of different agroforestry tree species
(G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar - 263145 (Uttarakhand), 2004-07) Goswami, Sandhya; Tewari, Salil K.
The present investigation was conducted on two sets of multipurpose tree species having fifteen and twenty- eight tree species as a treatment at Agroforestry Research Centre, Haldi, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, (Udham Singh Nagar) during December 2003 to May 2004. Experiment was conducted in Randomized block design with five replications. Single plant data were recorded in each treatment on growth characters viz. height, collar diameter, clear bole length, crown length, crown width, number of branches and chlorophyll content at 30 days interval. Nitrogen and Protein content were taken in the last month of investigation. Variability in growth performance was observed for different tree species. Cassia siamea, Acacia catechu, Tectona grandis, Anthocephalus chinensis for set I and Eucalyptus tereticornis, Bauhinia variegata, Kizelia pinnata, Calistemon lanceolatus showed superior growth from agroforestry point of view. Higher nitrogen and Protein content obtained in Albizia lebbeck, Cassia simaea etc. in set I and Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Bauhinia variegata etc. in set II. The correlation analysis showed mutual relationship of growth characters with each other. During April and May height and collar diameter showed significant growth while during December and March significant growth observed in all the growth characters.
