India is the biggest democracy in the world with a population touching a billion marks. Seventy percent of them live in its 5.67 lakh villages depending on agriculture for their livelihood. Agriculture sector, in this country occupies the central position and continues to be the largest sector in terms of offering employment for both men & women. But unfortunately it is facing a complex situation in this globalization and liberalization era, than even before. Forty percent of people still blessed with a plethora of traditional skills. Agriculture remained mostly neglected and bound within traditional moorings and suffered setbacks. Communication is an integral part of development. Communication and development are considered to be closely related. The prosperity of any state or nation depends largely on agricultural development and communication is apparently applicable to development to agriculture. In India inspite of fulfilling the basic requirement of whole population farmers are still considered as the last and backward unit of society. Even they unable to provide a better living standard, education and sustenance to their own dependents. There is a wide gap between extension agencies and farmers. The gap might be due to the ignorance by the extension workers to farmers and some social and personal constraints of farmers, which make them unable to adopt the new agricultural practices at their farm. Keeping this in view, the present study was carried out in district Udham Singh Nagar. The two villages namely Chhinki and Deoria were selected in Rudrapur block. Through the random sampling methods, the farmers were selected as the respondents for the study. The data were collected with the help of structured interview schedule with taking the total sample size 80. The finding of the study reveal that must of the respondents had less interaction with extension agencies and the adoption level was least. Most of the respondents were utilizing localite and personal cosmopolite sources in their own level.

(G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar - 263145 (Uttarakhand), 2004-05) Sharma, Shalini; Singh, A.K.
Effective dissemination of farm technology to the farmers offers better hope for agricultural development in the country. Past experience in the field of farm information communication have shown the potentiality of radio as an effective medium of communication with farming community. „Farm and Home‟ unit of AIR started „FSA‟ programme for effective dissemination of constantly evolving new farm technologies. The success of developmental programme like FSA programme depends on the audience and their activity behaviour. Keeping this in view the present study was carried out on the registered farmers of FSA programme on organic farming which is being broadcast from AIR, Rampur. The data was collected with the help of structured mailed questionnaire. The audience activity indicates the effectiveness of the programme. The audience activity of the FSA programme listeners was found to be at medium level. The findings of the study reveals that majority of the respondents were of young age group, belonged to upper cast, nuclear families, had education upto medium level with low degree of mass media exposure. Further, the findings of the study suggested that, the title of the programme should not be ambiguous short duration programmes ranging from 25-40 minutes with soothing instrumental or folk music clubbed with main theme, will pass on the message effectively. Majority of the respondents indicated that language should be simple & easy to grasp. Speed of presentation must be slow. Thus, it can be conclude that appropriate message designing according to the perceptions and preferences of the farmers is important to pass on the developmental messages effectively to them.
