Job stress, subjective well-being and parenting behaviour of police personnel in Ludhiana city

The present study presumed that occupational stress among police personnel can have damaging impact upon their health and fathering behaviour. Thus, this study was planned to study the job stress, health status and parenting behaviour of 120 policemen selected from police lines of Ludhiana city. The sample included constables, head constables and assistant sub inspectors. The results revealed that among all the three ranks, constables were found to be suffering from more physical health problems whereas, head constables were experiencing more psychological problems. Policemen reported to be more positive in their behaviour towards their sons than their daughters. Occupational stress on the whole was damaging for the health of the policemen. As their feeling of low status made them significantly less protective and less supportive, whereas perception of unreasonable group and political pressure reduced their controlling and demanding style. However, their sense of intrinsic impoverishment significantly added to their appreciation and reward for their children.
