    Inter gender study on knowledge and performance of panchayat members

    The study was conducted in purposively selected Hisar II-block of Hisar district in Haryana state by including total 200 panchayats members i.e.100 each from preceding and existing six panchayats out of which 3each were male and female headed panchayats. Profile of preceding and existing panchayat members and iner gender knowledge and performance cf existing panchayat members as well as panchayats as a whole was studied. The existing panchayat members were younger in age, more qualified, had more of trainings exposure and using more number of media sources and ICT tool. While the preceding panchayat members had more annual income and social participation of family members. Significant differences in knowledge of male and female panchayat members was seen with respect to demography of village, government functionaries, functions and power of gram sabha, general constitution and meeting of gram Panchayat; sources of gram fund, type of fees levied by gram panchayat, major registers, duties of gram sachiv. Male and female panchayat members differed significantly in knowledge about mandatory function; constitutional role in agriculture and allied activities, farm forestry and cottage industry and rural sanitation and public health. Both male and female panchayat members had low knowledge regarding mandatory functions and high regarding discretionary roles. Knowledge of male members was high regarding most of the constitutional roles; however, the knowledge of female members was moderate about most of the constitutional roles. Neither the male nor the female panchayat members had high performance score in any the activities. Male members had either low, moderate or high level of performance in almost equal number of activities; however, performance of female panchayat members was of low extent with respect to majority of the activities. The female headed panchayats had better performance in terms of holding panchayat & gram sabha meetings; passing resolutions; beneficiary selection; planning & budget formulation; sources of income generation; establishment of local institutions; implementation of schemes; accountability & transparency.The male headed panchayats performed better in terms of attendance in gram sabha meetings; management and capacity building, civic duties; strengthening of institutions and receiving awards for excellence in performance.

    Awareness and utilization of cash less system in Hisar district

    The present study was conducted in Hisar district of Haryana state. 200 respondents from two localities viz., Sector 14 and Sector 15 for urban area and in rural area two villages viz., Ludas and Shahpur including 100 males and 100 females were selected. A set of 13 independent variables, 3 communication variables and 3 dependent variables were selected for the study. Socio-economic personal profile of respondents revealed that majority of respondents were below 35 years of age group, educated up to graduation and unmarried, had nuclear type of family having up to 5 members in a family and belonged to general caste having no membership. They had their own Independent profession with the monthly income above Rs.10, 000, had pucca house and were landless. Majority of respondents possessed Cable TV and they utilized information from family members and had exposure of PayTm for using cashless system. Almost all the respondents had heard about demonetization and knew that bank account number is required for any cashless transaction. Many of them felt excellent about this step taken by PM Sh. Narendra Modi who also supported cash less economy and believed that digital methods are risk-free and cash less system is helpful in college, curbed black money and corruption in the country. It affected agriculture and has brought access to higher education to common man‘s reach, possessed ATM card and also found it most convenience method of cashless payment as perceived by most of the respondents. Majority of urban respondents utilized and rural respondents did not utilize bankcards before demonetization. Almost all the respondents preferred to use cash in purchasing of items less than Rs. 5,000 such as automobile. Majority of respondents reported that no change was observed on purchasing behavior and rarely utilized mobile banking as it is secure and risk-free, internet banking keeps account safe and bankcards pays less cost due to cash back. Most of the respondents were not using mobile phone as they don‘t see the point in them; didn‘t have access to internet banking and high interest rate and increased debt on bankcards. Most of respondents highly faced the problem of lack of internet connectivity. Significant difference was found between rural and urban in respect of awareness, opinion and utilization regarding demonetization and cash less system. Irrespective of residing area, a positive and significant correlation between independent and dependent variables was found.

    Knowledge, participation and attitude about swachh bharat mission in rural Hisar

    Universal sanitation and the dream of clean India is not a distinct one as “Swachh Bharat Mission” has been introduced on 2nd of October 2014 (145th birth anniversary of Bapu) by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi at Rajghat, New Delhi who himself picking up the broom swept roads and streets, making Swachh Bharat Mission largest ever cleanliness drive in the country. The present study was conducted in Hisar district of Haryana state. Two villages; Mangali and Aryanagar from Hisar I and Hisar II (blocks) were selected randomly by selecting 20 females, 20 males and 10 field functionaries from each village which made total sample to be 100. Knowledge, attitude and participation of respondents in Swachh Bharat Mission were assessed. Low knowledge about the mission was reported among rural respondents. Participation was reported low to medium. Attitude was found to be unfavourable. A training session of three days was organized in each village to impart knowledge on various aspects of the mission. 10 males and 10 females from each village were selected randomly for the training. Respondents selected for training showed highly significant gain in knowledge at post-exposure stage (‘t’ value; 19.21** for females and 17.50** for males). Attitude of the respondents after the training also witnessed a significant change (‘t’ value was 7.20* for females and 5.87* for the males). Correlation between independent variables such as age, marital status, occupation, family size, education, occupation and media use were found to be significant with the knowledge. Respondents with high family income, media usage and professional occupation had more favorable attitude towards the mission. Highly significant positive correlation was found between knowledge, attitude and participation of respondents in Swachh Bharat Mission.

    Role of social media in dissemination of agricultural innovations in Haryana

    Social media is very important tool in farming and growing at an explosive rate, with millions of people all over the world generating and sharing content on a scale barely imaginable a few years ago. Now social media is the main form of communication around the world. There is also need of timely site specific and rapid dissemination of agricultural information. . The study was conducted in two districts of Haryana state namely, Hisar and Sirsa, from each district two blocks were selected randomly, from each block two villages were selected and from each village, fifteen farmers were selected randomly. Thus, total one hundred twenty farmers were selected and interviewed with the help of well structured schedule. The interview schedule was divided into three parts i.e. awareness, adoption and constraint. Findings of the personal profile of the respondents revealed that majority of the farmers were of middle age group (31-50 years), educated up to higher secondary, belonged to nuclear family, performed farming and had land holing up to 5 acres. Result pertaining to awareness indicated that awareness about WhatsApp and Kisan SMS Portal was more than 70 % among the respondents. Results pertaining to adoption of social media to farmers revealed that most of the farmers preferred social media for entertainment and communicating purpose rather than agricultural information. No training and education about use of social media, low level of education, people were less trusted towards social media, language and cultural barriers were the main barriers faced by the respondents. The study exposed the ground reality of use of social media which could help the extension personnel to develop the models which can make social media user friendly in communicating and sharing agricultural information.

    Study on professional aspirations of agriculture graduates

    The present study was carried out at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during 2017-18 to analyze the aspirations of agriculture graduates. The data were collected from all the students of final year during the academic year 2017-18, having a total sample of 160 respondents using pre-tested interview schedule through personal interview method. The standardized scales with partial modifications and appropriate schedule were developed and used in the study. The specific objectives of the present study were (1) To study personal and socio-economic characteristics of the agriculture graduates (2) To know the aspirations of the agriculture graduates (3) To find out the correlation between personal attributes of the agriculture graduates and their aspirations. The 11 important independent variables namely, caste, gender, marital status, stream of education at 10+2 level, academic performance, land holding, parental occupation, annual income, social participation, mass media exposure and allied activities and aspirations comprised educational aspirations, job aspirations, social aspirations, economic aspirations and professional aspirations which were the dependent variables. It was observed that majority (74.30%) of the students were male sex and belonged to the non-reserved caste (54.90%) and came from nuclear family (86.30%). Almost all the students were unmarried and only one student found was found married. Majority (61.10%) of the students had medical as stream of education at 10+2 level, more than half of the respondents (56.60%) obtained between 70.1- 80 per cent and 35.40 per cent of the students had small size of land holding. Whereas majority (36.60%) of the respondents‟ parental occupation was government service and 44.60 per cent of them had total annual income between (Rs. 5,70,001 to 8,35,000). Almost all the students (98.00%) were found no member of any organization, most of the respondents gave preference to Internet as their prime mass media exposure tool followed by books and journals. The findings also revealed that majority (63.40%) of the agriculture graduates had medium level of participation in allied activities. Majority (68.50%) of the students had medium level of aspirations and 76.40 per cent of them aspired to pursue higher education in agriculture and to work in educational and research institutions (28.60%). However, more than half (55.40%) of the respondents aspired to earn Rs. 50,000 to 60,000 monthly, while nearly half (48.00%) of the students aspired to get social recognition and maximum number (42.30%) of the students aspired to become a renowned scientist. It is observed from the study that the caste, subject at 10+2 level, family type, land holding and social participation could not show any significant relationship with the aspirations of the agriculture graduates. The variables i.e. gender and marital status were negatively associated with the aspirations of the agriculture graduates. Allied activities were found significantly associated with the aspirations of the agriculture graduates. Whereas variables such as academic performance, annual income and mass media exposure of the students were positively and highly significantly related with the aspirations of the agriculture graduates.

    Impact of media in promoting organic farming among farm families

    The present study was conducted in Haryana state. Two districts viz. Sirsa and Hisar and one block from each district was selected randomly. Sixty respondents (30 males and 30 females) from each village were selected randomly, to make 240 respondents in total for study. Gain in knowledge, change in attitude and symbolic adoption on organic farming were assessed. More than half of the respondents had overall low knowledge, neutral attitude and not ready to adopt organic farming at preexposure stage. Standard procedure for media development was followed. The effectiveness of booklet and CD were assessed in different parameters. For booklet, overall weighted mean scores showed that accuracy, coverage, objectivity, writing style, content presentation, illustration and compatibility were perceived to be high for all the messages. Effectiveness of CD was perceived high, assessed in terms of audio quality, video quality, presentation of messages and content importance and stability. Inter consistency reliability for booklet and CD were found to be statistically highly significance at 1 percent level of significance. Field applicability was found to be high for all messages. The media was exposed to 120 respondents who had low knowledge on organic farming at pre-exposure stage. The impact of booklet and CD was found to be highly significant for gain in knowledge, change in attitude and symbolic adoption. Therefor it can be concluded that respondents had knowledge acquisition and favorable attitude towards organic farming after media exposure.
