Effect of weed management practices on yield and economics of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L.)
(2023-12-16) Mahendra Yadav; Dr Sanjeev Kumar
The present investigation “Effect of weed management practices on yield and economics of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L.)” was carried out during Rabi season of the year 2021-22 at Student’s Instructional Farm, C.S.A. University of Agriculture ant Technology, Nawabganj, India. The experiment was carried out in a Randomized Block Design with nine treatments viz., T1- Unweeded check (Control), T2- Weed Free, T3-Two hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS, T4- Oxadiargyl @ 0.25 kg a.i. ha-1 as pre-emergence, T5- Fluazifop-p-butyl 0.055 kg a.i. ha -1 at 15 DAS, T6- Clodinafop @ 0.06 kg a.i. ha-1 at 15 DAS, T7- Oxadiargyl @ 0.25 kg ai ha-1 as pre-emergence + Hand weeding at 40 DAS + Hand weeding at 40 DAS, T8- Fluazifop-p-butyl 0.055 kg ha -1 at 15 DAS + Hand weeding at 40 DAS, T9- Clodinafop @ 0.06 kg a.i. ha-1 at 15 DAS + Hand weeding at 40 and all the treatments were replicated three times. Observations were recorded on weed flora, weed density, weed index, weed control efficiencies of different treatments, growth parameters, yield and its attributing characters at different stages and economics of mustard crop with standard procedures and methods. The major weed flora observed in the experiment were grassy weeds viz; Phalaris minor, Cynodon dactylon, Avena fatum of grassy group, viz; Chenopodium album, Anagallis arvensis Convolvulus arvensis, Melilotus alba, Rumex spp. of Broad leaf weeds and Cyperus rotundus of sedges group. On the basis of above experimental results the following conclusions may be suggested that the application of T2- Weed Free, and integrated method of weed control (T7- Oxadiargyl @ 0.25 kg ai ha-1 as pre-emergence + Hand weeding at 40 DAS.) were found most promising to minimize the weed infestation in Indian mustard. Comparable to T2- Weed Free, pre-emergence application of T7- Oxadiargyl @ 0.25 kg ai ha-1 as pre-emergence + Hand weeding at 40 DAS was found most favourable to enhance the plant height, dry weight and number of siliquae per plant as well as the seed yield of mustard. Over the weed control efficiency and weed index, T2- Weed Free, pre-emergence application of T7- Oxadiargyl @ 0.25 kg a.i. ha-1 as pre-emergence + Hand weeding at 40 DAS was found most favourable. On the basis of economics, the maximum gross return (Rs. 1,30,714.1 ha-1) as well as maximum net return (Rs.86,216 ha-1) was obtained from T2- Weed Free. The highest B:C Ratio (2.30) was obtained from T8- Fluazifop-p-butyl 0.055 kg a.i. ha -1 at 15 DAS + Hand weeding at 40 DAS. whereas minimum B:C Ratio (1.74) was noted in T1- Unweeded check (Control).
