MULTIDIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS OF ENTREPRENEURIAL BEHAVIOUR AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SUPPORT SYSTEM OF MUSHROOM GROWERS IN JHARKHAND
    (2022) Edan Mundu; B.K. Jha
Mushroom production as an enterprise has great potential for entrepreneurship development but like any other entrepreneur, mushroom growers are also required to have desired entrepreneurial behavior and strong entrepreneurial support system, to develop, grow and sustain. In this background a study on “Multidimensional analysis of entrepreneurial behavior and entrepreneurial support system of mushroom growers in Jharkhand” was planned with the specific objectives viz.to determine and assess the entrepreneurial behavior of respondents in the study area, to evaluate the entrepreneurial support system in Jharkhand and to find out association of entrepreneurial support system with entrepreneurial behavior and income. The study was carried out in Jharkhand state during the year 2021-2022. Exploratory – cum - Ex post facto research design was followed. Altogether 90 respondents from various districts namely, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Dumka, East Singhbhum, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Saraikela-Kharsawan and Simdega were selected through snowball sampling technique. Variables related to personal profile included age, education, family size, gender, income, occupation, and place of residency. Based on a thorough review of literature related to entrepreneurial behaviour, eleven dimensions and statements to explain each of the dimensions were identified. The normalized rank approach suggested by Guilford (1954) was used to develop the scale. The components of entrepreneurial behaviour included achievement motivation, decision making ability, economic motivation, information seeking behavior, innovativeness, leadership ability, management orientation, marketing strategy, risk bearing ability, scientific orientation and technical competency. Six dimensions of entrepreneurial support system viz. financial support, human resource development support, infrastructure support, market support, family and social support and technological support were selected. The selected variables were measured through the tests and scales already developed or developed under the study. Data were analyzed through frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Karl Pearson Correlation, Principal Component Analysis and AHP. The findings revealed that majority of the mushroom growers were male, belonged to middle age category, educated up to degree and above, had medium sized family, medium level of income and were from urban residency. So far as their entrepreneurial behaviour is concerned, majority of the respondents were high in risk bearing ability, scientific orientation, management orientation, marketing strategy and economic motivation. Overall, majority of the respondents had medium level of entrepreneurial behaviour. Principal Component Analysis of entrepreneurial behaviour revealed that only three components viz. achievement motivation, economic motivation and technical competency had Eigen value of greater than ‘1’ and explained the variability up to 73 %. Among the entrepreneurial support system (ESS), human resource development had highest priority value (0.211) and out of 43 sub-dimensions of six dimensions, training by various organizations ranked number 1. Study indicated that technical support, HRD support and financial support correlated significantly with entrepreneurial behaviour whereas infrastructure, finance, market and HRD support associated significantly with income. Stakeholders of mushroom enterprise development need to devise strategies to promote entrepreneurship through congenial entrepreneurial environment so that mushroom growers can start, improve and sustain mushroom enterprise.
