ArticleItem Unknown DYSTOCIA DUE TO PELVIC STENOSIS IN A COW - A CASE REPORT(1991) Venkataraman, KS; Rajendran, B; Kathiresan, D; TANUVASNormal delivery of foetus by the natural route deserves foremost consideration .. However, it is often a very difficult in cases of dystocia. In cases of dystocia due to foetal oversize or pelvic deformity of the dam, caesarean operation is. the last. resort (Roberts, 1986). This report deals with lhe successful caesarean section performed under field conditions in a primipara cow with pelvic deformity.ArticleItem Unknown EpideEpidemiology of an outbreak of leptospirosis in man and dog(1992) Venkataraman, KS; Nedunchelliyan, S; TANUVASAn outbreak of leptospirosis in man and dog occurred during the monsoon in Madras city, India. 48 (50.5%) of the 95 human sera tested were positive for leptospirosis. Of these, 32 showed the presence of agglutinin to serovar icterohaemorrhagiae. 20 (21.3%) of the 94 canine sera tested were positive for leptospirosis. Of these, 10 had agglutinins to serovar icterohaemorrhagiae and 9 to serovar canicola. Among murine reservoirs, 8 (25%) of 32 rat sera and 10 (41.6%) of 24 bandicoot sera were positive. Bandicoot and rat sera contained 70 and 50% of agglutinins to serovar icterohaemorrhagiae, respectively. Urine culture lead to isolate a icterohaemorrhagiae strain from a patient and a canicola one from a dog. The changing trends of epidemiology in the transmission of leptospirosis to man and dog has been discussed.ArticleItem Open Access EXPERIMENTAL INFECTION OF DOGS WITH LEPTOSPIRA INTERROGANS SEROVAR ICTEROHAEMORRHAGIAE(1993) Venkataraman, KS; Nedunchelliyan, S; John, Mathew C.; TANUVASFive dogs were experimentally inoculated with virulent Leptospira interrogans serovar Icterohaemorrhagiae and the disease spectrum was studied. Febrile reaction was observed for 4-7 days after infection. The clinical signs observed were pyrexia, anorexia, depression, congested conjunctiva and diarrhoea. Leptospiraemia was observed during the febrile period mostly on PID 4,5, 6 and isolation of leptospires was possible during the fist week. Leptospiraemia was first detected on PID-7 and intermittent after PID-2l. The kidney sections revealed leptospires.ArticleItem Open Access Incidence Of Leptospirosis In Aborting And Repeat Breeding Cows and Buffaloes(1991) Venkataraman, KS; Nedunchelliyan, S; TANUVASLeptospirosis as an important cause of abortion in cattle, has been reported by various workers (Adinarayanan et al, 1960; Knott and Dadswell, 1970; De et al, 1983). The present report deals with the serological study under» taken on samples collected from aborting and repeat breeding cows and buffaloes.ArticleItem Open Access INFECTIVITY OF DIFFERENT STRAINS OF TRYPANOSOMA EVANSI IN RABBITS(1997) Mathew, C. John; Nedunchelliyan, S; Venkataraman, KS; TANUVASThe infectivity of three strains (buffalo, bovine and canine) of T. evansi in rabbits revealed the prepatent period to vary from 17.5 to 19.4 days and patent period 34.2 to 44.7 days. The course of the disease varied from 53.4 to 64.1 days. The infected rabbits developed a chronic course with paroxysms and intermissions to these strains of T. evansi.ArticleItem Open Access LEPTOSPIROSIS IN DAIRY CATTLE - A RECENT EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY(1994) Ramakrishna, J; Venkataraman, KS; TANUVASLeptospirosis has been recognised as a worldwide problem in dairy cattle on account of abortion, still births, infertility and decreased milk production (Thiermann, 1984). Prevalence of leptospirosis due to different serovars among Indian livestock, based on serological evidence, has been reported by various workers.ArticleItem Open Access PATHOLOGY OF TRYPANOSOMA EVANS! INFECTION IN GUINEA PIGS(1999) John, Mathew C.; Nedunchellian, S; Venkataraman, KS; Sundararaj, A; TANUVASA study on pathology T evansi infection induced in Guinea pigs with three strains was carried out. The Guinea pigs exhibited relapsing type of parasitaemia, gradual loss of appetite and alopecia. The scrotum and testis were enlarged. Histopathological changes in spleen, liver, lung kidney and Heart were reputed.ArticleItem Open Access A REPORT ON LEPTOSPIRAL ABORTION IN A MARE(1998) Venkataraman, KS; Manickam, R; TANUVASLeptospirosis as an important cause of abortion in horses has been recognised (Faine, 1982). Though Ieptospiral abortions have been recorded in c0ws,4buffaIoes and sheep in Tamil Nadu (Venkataraman, 1991 and 1993), repons in horses are meagre. The present paper describes the Ieptospiral abortion in a mare.
