ArticleItem Open Access Clinical Management of Spinal Cord Injury in a Horse(INTAS Polivet, 2012) Velavan, A.; William, B. Justin; Pushkinraj, H.; Padmanath, K.; Kumar, R. Suresh; TANUVASOne gelding with traumatic history was presented for treatment. The horse was systematically screened under routine neurological protocol. Cranial nerve test and spinal reflexes tests were conducted. Radiograph was also made. The lesion was diagnosed as thoracolumbar spinal cord injury. The animal was treated for the spinal cord injury using Methly prednisolone sodium succinate epidurally within 12 hour interval and Streptopenicillin for 7 days. During the treatment period animal was kept under complete rest for two months. Mild improvement was observed on day 7 and complete recovery from clinical signs was observed on 30th day. Blood biochemical parameters analysed on weekly intervals also confirmed these improvements.ArticleItem Open Access Coenurosis and its Surgical Management in a Kid(INTAS Polivet, 2012) Velavan, A.; Pushkinraj, H.; William, B. Justin; TANUVASA Kid was reported with tumors growth all over the body (a total of nine) which were diagnosed as coenurus cysts. Under general anaesthesia, the kid was operated for the coenurus cysts and all the cysts were exteriorized surgically and tincture iodine instilled into the cavity sutured. Skin sutures removed after seven days. No recurrence of cysts was observed up to one year.ArticleItem Open Access Haemorrhagic Proctitis by Salmonellosis in a Cow - A Report(Indian Veterinary Association, Chennai, 2019-02) Ranjithkumar, M.; Krishnakumar, S.; Ramanan, P. Arunachala; Ronald, B.S.M.; Pushkinraj, H.; TANUVASA 6 year old pleuriparous cross bred cow was presented with the history of straining, frequent and failure attempts of defecation, stranguria, propulsion of vagina and rectum since early morning. On clinical examination, the animal had dyschezia, tenesmus, stranguria and empty rectum. Serum and whole blood samples were collected and sent for laboratory. PCR examina-tion for BVD was negative. Plate agglutination along with culture and isolation of whole blood and feces confirmed Salmonella spp. infection. The animal was treated with rectal douche with alum, kaolin and ferric sulphate, ice fomenta-tion, parenteral ciprofloxacin and prednisolone and epidural lignocaine. Uneventful recovery was noticed on third day of therapy.ArticleItem Open Access Spontaneous Pneumothorax in Two Dogs – A Report(Indian Veterinary Association, 2018-05) Ranjithkumar, M.; Thilagar, M.B.; Gopalakrishnan, A.; Sumathi, D.; Pushkinraj, H.; Jayathangaraj, M.G.; TANUVASTwo dogs aged one and 4 years were reported with the history of severe respiratory distress, retching and lateral recumbency. On physical examination, there was hyperechoic resonance during percussion. Radiographic examination con rmed the cases with elevated cardiac silhouette from sternum and atelectic lung lobes. Thoracocentesis was carried on emergency basis initially at 8th and 11th intercostals space and twice at 12 hour interval. Both dogs recovered clinically from second day onwards. Complete recovery without any recurrence was observed from third day onwards. Spontaneous pneumothorax without any history of trauma in two adult dogs and its successful medical management is reported.
