Senthil; TANUVASA total of 30 skin swabs from Feline pyoderma cases were subjected for culture and antibiogram. The Staphylococcus intermedius was isolated (60%) along with other bacteria and fungi. It showed sensitivity to Amikacin (70%), Ciprofloxacin (60%), Gentamicin (50%), Amoxicillin-Clavulanic acid (40%) and complete resistance to Ampicillin. The medical records analysis evidenced that the isolates (20%) showed resistant to all antimicrobial drugs tested.ArticleItem Open Access Gross Anatomical Studies on the Sternum and Clavicle Of Spot-Billed Pelican (Pelecanus Philippensis)(TANUVAS, Chennai, 2012-05) Sathyamoorthy, O.R.; Thirumurugan, R.; Kumar, K. Senthil; Jayathangaraj, M.G.; TANUVASThe sternum of Spot-billed pelican was large, broad and quadrilateral in shape. The sternal crest was small, triangular in shape and extended upto cranial half of the ventral surface only. The cranial border of the sternal crest was straight, and extended beyond the cranial border of the sternum. The hypocledium was fused to the ventral part of the cranial border of the sternal crest permanently. The cranial border presented a deep groove in the centre and narrow grooves on either side for coracoid bones. The sternal spine extended only from the ventral edge of the groove of the cranial border. The craniolateral processes were short. The lateral borders had five articular cylinders for sternocostal bones. Numerous pneumatic foramina were present between the articular cylinders. The caudolateral processes were short. The caudal border presented a short process in the centre. Among the potential causes, the bacterial infection such as Pasteurella multocida, Bordetella bronchiseptica and Staphylococcus sp. are more prevalent. It is highly contagious devastating respiratory tract disease which can also affect the eye, ear and other organs (Hillyer and Quensberry 2004). The disease can be transmitted by Direct and indirect contact mainly by aerosol infection. Abdul; TANUVASThe occurrence of Kalicephalus sp. of hookworms in a Russell’s viper snake maintained in Chennai snake park trust, Chennai is reported. These worms were found in the stomach and intestine. They were cylindrical, thread like and had an elongate body. Anterior end was obliquely truncated with bivalvular buccal capsule. Short, thick and muscularised oesophagus ending in a rounded bulb was observed. In males, a well developed trilobed bursa was observed and the spicules were short and equal. Senthil; Raman, M.; TANUVASAn adult Holstein Friesian cross-bred cow was brought to Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital with the history of anorexia and fever. Peripheral blood smear stained by Leishman revealed large sized (About 60 mm) extracellular parasites. Haematological examination revealed anisocytosis and h ichromasia. Based on the morphology of the parasite which had long and pointed posterior end, subterminal kinetoplast, well defined undulating membrane and free flagellum, it was identified as Trypanosoma theileri Laveran, 1902. The animal showed anaemia, hypoproteinaemia, hypoalbuminaemia, hypophosphataemia and reductions in BUN, creatinine and AST levels.ArticleItem Open Access PREVALENCE OF HAEMOPROTOZOANS IN CANINES IN CHENNAI CITY(TANUVAS, 2009-05) Kumar, K.
