ArticleItem Open Access Cold Shock Test and Freezabillty of Murrah Buffalo Spermatozoa(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1990-10) Edwin, M.John; Easwaran, B.M.; Thangaraju, P.; TANUVASSudden reduction in temprature to below 5 C affect the vit1lity of spermatozoa of most farm animals and this harmful effect of sudden cooling is known as 'temperature' or 'cold shock' (Milovanov; 1934). Cold shock resistance test has shown relevance with invitro preservation and fertility (Lasley and Bogart 1943, Sengupta et aI. 1963, Copalakrishna and Rao 1979, Chinnaiya and Ganguli 1978) Wide range of individual variations for frozen semen production among buffalo bulls prompted us to evaluate the usefulness of this simple test for screening buffalo bulls for their freezability.ThesisItem Open Access Deep Freezing of Ram Semen(Madras Veterinary College, Chennai, 1980) Kalatharan, J.; TANUVAS; Easwaran, B.M.; Krishnamurthy, U.S.; Natarajan, N.; Krishnan, A.R.; Kadirvel, R.ThesisItem Open Access Effect of Potassium and Sodium Concentration on Quality and Freezability of Buffalo Semen(Madras Veterinary College, Chennai, 1980) Kanakaraj, P.; TANUVAS; Krishnamoorthy, U.S.; Venkatayyan, S.; Natarajan, N.; Easwaran, B.M.; Krishnan, A.R.ArticleItem Open Access Inter-Relationship between the Total Protein Content Of Buffalo Seminal, Plasma and Freezability of Spermatozoa(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1990-08) Edwin, M.John; Krishnan, A.R.; Easwaran, B.M.; TANUVASThe seminal plasma of mammals play a decisive role in the protection of spermatozoa during cooling. Heteroplasmic and heterospermic studies of Ganguli (1978) revealed that the seminal plasma plays a definite role in spermatozoan motility, survival and viability. Protein may increase the the permeability of biological membranes and it has been suggested that the basic proteins of the seminal vesicles have a similar effect on the membrane of spermatozoa (Hibbitt and Benians, 1971). High protein content in boar semen was shown to render the sperm cell membrane susceptable to injury by cooling and deep freezing (Lavon and Boursnell, 1971).ArticleItem Open Access Potassium and Sodium Concentration of Buffalo Semen(TANUVAS, 1982) Kanakaraj, P; Easwaran, B.M.; Krishnan, A.R.; Krishnamurthy, U.S.; TANUVAS145 ejaculates harvested from ten Murrah bulls of three age groups stationed at Livestock Research Station, Kattupakkam were studied, for potassium and sodium concentration. The mean concentration of potassium in whole semen, spermatozoa and semina plasma was found to be 98.04±2.77 mg%, 194.84±4.92 mg% and 81.28±2.13 mg% respectively, while mean concentration of sodium was 243±4.09 mg%, 145.10±3.43 mg% and 278.4.28 mg% respectively. The sodium : potassium ratio in semen was found to be 1 : 0.4 and there was a significant negative correlation of -0.26 between sodium and potassium concentrations. Sodium and potassium in seminal plasma were correlated negatively (-0.484) whereas, potassium concentration of the spermatozoa and seminal plasma were correlated positively (+0.275). The effect of age was found to be significant on potassium concentration in semen. Older bulls produce semen with high potassium concentration resulting in poor quality. But age had no effect on sodium concentration. Seasons had no significant effect on both potassium and sodium concentration of buffalo semen.ThesisItem Open Access Relationship of Blood Glutathione Level with Production Traits in Meyer Strain White Leghorn Layers(Madras Veterinary College, Chennai, 1977) Easwaran, B.M.; TANUVASArticlesItem Open Access Semen Production Potential Of Jersey Bulls Under Indian Management Conditions(TANUVAS ; Chennai, 1998) Sundararaman, M.N.; Thangaraju, P.; Edwin, M.
