ThesisItem Open Access “STUDIES ON BREAKING DORMANCY IN GLADIOLUS” (Gladiolus hybridus L.)(Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri., 2014) .MORE NILAM SUNILRAO; Ambad, S.N.(GD)The present investigation entitled, “Studies on Breaking dormancy in gladiolus (Gladiolus hybridus L.)” Cv. Phule Neelrekha was carried out at Modi Baug, Horticulture section in college of Agriculture,Pune during 2013-2014. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication and eight treatments viz. Hydrogen cyanamide 1%, Potassium nitrate 1%, GA3 200 ppm, Salicylic acid 1%, BA 500 ppm, Etherel 100 ppm ,Water soaking and control for 24 hrs. Uniform sized gladiolus corms and cormels were soaked in solutions of different concentration for 24 hours before planting. The results indicated that the treatment potassium nitrate 1% found to be earliest in sprouting (25.13 days) of corms and (17.40 days) of cormels, GA3 at 200 ppm increased sprouting percentage (91.67%) in corms and (73.33%) in cormels. The vegetative and floral characters were significantly superior in the plants grown from the corms and cormels treated with hydrogen cyanamide 1% followed by potassium nitrate and GA3. The corms treated with hydrogen cyanamide 1% produced the plants with most superior characters in respect of plant height (138.93cm) in corms and (45.27 cm) in cormels , number of leaves per plant (11.27) in corms and (4.80) in cormels , spike length (114.50cm), rachis length (54.91 cm), diameter of flower (9.52 cm), number of florets per spike (19.50), corm size (7.61 cm) and corm weight (108.50g), number of cormels per plant (24.73 ) and weight of cormels per plant (22.93 g) than all other treatments. To break the dormancy of fresh gladiolus corms hydrogen cyanamide 1%, potassium nitrate 1%, GA3 200 ppm gave promising results in all vegetative and floral characters in cv. Phule Neelrekha.
