dc.description.abstractThe present study entitled “Awareness of Green Consumerism among working women of Ludhiana city” was conducted to know the awareness and the practices regarding green consumerism among selected women professionals and to prepare guide on Green Consumerism. The sample for the study comprised of 125 working women from five categories of professionals viz. Doctors, Engineers, Agricultural Scientists, Home Scientists, and College/School Lecturers drawn through purposive random sampling technique. The information was gathered through distributed questionnaire approach. The results indicated that Agricultural Scientists and Home Scientists were well aware of most of the aspects of Green Consumerism but they were not practicing it fully. Majority of the respondents (97.60%) had right knowledge about Energy Star rating label on electrical appliances, followed by (76.80%) Global Organic Textile Standard mark, (58.40%) International Organic and Cosmetic Corporation mark, (52.00%) Recycle Mark, (46.40%) Indian Organic Mark, (43.20%) Water Rating, (36.00%) Panasonic’s Environment Mark, (16.00%), Forest Stewardship Council mark, (15.20%), EU Eco-label. It is very discouraging to note that only a few respondents (13.60%) were aware of Eco-mark. The purchase practices of majority of respondents were upto optimum satisfaction level and it was seen that majority of the respondents (81.60%) used to check eco label on food items, on home cleansers (68.80%) and on clothing (71.20%) before making purchase. The energy saving practices were generally followed by the respondents but their waste management practices were not always eco-friendly. So, a guide was prepared to enhance the knowledge of consumers regarding green consumerism.en_US
