dc.description.abstractThe investigation on ‘studies on the effect of zinc, iron and gibberllic acid on growth, flowering, yield and quality in anthurium (Anthurium andreanum Lind.) cv. Jewel’ was carried out during the year 2012-2014. The experiment was conducted under 80% shade net with twenty seven treatments and three replications, with different combinations of GA3 (0 ppm, 100 ppm and 200 ppm) and micro nutrients [Zinc sulphate (0, 0.20 and 0.40 %) and Ferrous sulphate (0, 0.15 and 0.30 %). Among the treatments, application of ZnSO4 @ 0.40% + FeSO4 @ 0.15% + GA3 @ 200 ppm recorded significantly maximum plant height (96.58cm), number of leaves (11.21), leaf length (45.27cm), leaf breadth (25.40 cm), leaf area (977.38 cm2) and sucker production per plant (6.10) at 720 days after planting, respectively, flower bud initiation and days taken to harvest of cut flowers was minimum (98.57 and 14.59 days, respectively). Flower quality characters like stalk length and girth (67.85 cm and 0.75 cm, respectively) was significantly maximum with longest spathe length and width (16.39 cm and 14.07 cm), highest yield per hectare (15.75 lakh cut flowers/ ha). Similarly, post-harvest qualities were superior and recorded fresh weight of flowers (39.40 to 19.92 g), higher water uptake, transpiration loss of water (76.09 g and77.61 g, respectively), and exhibited largest vase life (23.77 days).With respect to cost economics, highest gross return (Rs. 1,57,56,625/-), net return (Rs. 66,82,470/-) with highest B:C ratio of 1: 1.74 and additional returns of Rs. 60,94,430/- was obtained due to treatment effect with a B:C ratio of 1: 79.54 over two years of the study was observed in the same treatment. The highest anthocyanin content of spathe and chlorophyll content of leaves (6.56 mg/100g and 32.52 mg/cm2), zinc and iron (107.01 ppm and 289.68 ppm) content of leaves at 720 days after planting recorded in treatment which receives foliar spray of ZnSO4 @ 0.40% + FeSO4 @ 0.30% + GA3 @ 200 ppm. Taking into consideration the results obtained for all the above aspects, the treatment, with ZnSO4 @ 0.40% + FeSO4 @ 0.15% + GA3 @ 200 ppm proved to be best with respect to growth, flowering, yield, vase quality and cost economics of anthurium cultivation.en_US
