Abstract
A field experiment baa been in progress on Goradu soil under tobacco crop at Anand for 25 years. An attenpt has been made to evaluate the effects on soil properties and plant growth. Soil samples were collected from the middlepart of each plot upto the depth of 60cm (three layers) after harvest of crop for two years were analysed for various properties. Plant growth data for one year and yield for two years were also recorded. Continuous (25 years) application of FYM/yr, oil cake or combined application of green manure and oil cake in surface soil layer gave increased soil water holding capacity in the two years pooled data analysis. The water holding capacity of the sub-surface layer remained unaffected.
