dc.description.abstract | A study was undertaken at the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Anand to study the effect of summer stress on the growing Kankrej x Jersey half-bred castrated males and Kankrej heifers. The treatments wers- (A) Providing shelter ans (B) Keeping the animals completely exposed to summer conditions. Mean maximum, mean minimum and mean ambient temperature in open during the period of study were 101.11°F, 74.53°F and 89.77°F respectively. The treatments significantly affected the respiration and pulse rate per minute of the protected (39.79 and 80.22) and exposed (44.05 and 82.33) cross-bred males. Heat tolerance indices calculated by the methods of Mullick, Benara and Thomasfor the cross-bred males (0.84, 2.22 and 1.60) and Kankrej heifers (0.88, 1.51 and 1.29) showed that the latter were more heat tolerant. | en_US |
