dc.description.abstract | India has an animal population of 226.1 million cattle, 96.9 million buffaloes, 124.5 million goats and 59 million sheep (FAO, 2003). India is ranked top in the milk production in world by producing 86.96 million metric tones (MMT) milk per year (2003) with major contribution (54 %) having come from buffalo, the rest by cattle (42.7 %) and goat (3.03%). India has a rich biodiversity of animal genetic resources, however, many of them are very poor performers. | en_US |
